February 27: Reapportionment with Skip Humphrey.  Minnesota’s new apportionment of Congressional and State Legislative districts has roots in the Christmas Story of Mary’s birth of Jesus in the City of Bethlehem. According to Luke 2:4-5, the reason the couple traveled from Nazareth  was to be counted by the Romans in the place of birth of Joseph – the town of Bethlehem.

What was the purpose of the Roman census? How does this biblical story relate to today’s Minnesota new apportionment? How does our nation’s history of counting its people reflect efforts to end political racial and other injustices? What is the current status of our American and Minnesota apportionment? In 2032, what will the next reapportionment look like?
